Pakistan PM arrives in Afghanistan


Kabul, May 12 (IANS): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday arrived in Afghanistan on a one-day official visit.

Sharif is accompanied by his Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, army chief General Raheel Sharif, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior officials, Khaama Press reported.

Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabani received the Pakistani delegation at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

During his visit, Sharif is slated to hold a one-on-one meeting with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and will also meet Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah.

Delegation-level talks will take place between Pakistani and Afghan officials.

Both sides will reportedly discuss enhancing bilateral relationship, regional security, fight against terrorism and the Afghan reconciliation process.

This is Sharif's first visit to Kabul after the National Unity Government (NUG) was formed in September last year. Earlier, he visited the country on November 30, 2013.
