Puttur: MLA Shakuntala Shetty's niece killed in freak accident at Chennai

Puttur, May 13: In an unexpected and unfortunate tragedy which struck the family of local MLA Shakuntala Shetty, her younger brother's daughter was killed after falling into an metal cutter machine on Tuesday May 12 morning at Chennai. It is said that the veil of her churidar got entangled in the machine, as a result of which she got pulled inside.

Nireeksha Adyantaya (22) was an engineering graduate. She was employed in Chennai. Recently, she had resigned her job to pursue MBA degree education.

Nireeksha was the daughter of Gopalakrishna Adyantaya and Savita couple, who own an industry in Chennai. Gopalakrishna is a native of Kuttarpadavu near Konaje Mangaluru, while Savita is the daughter of Narayana Rai and Kusuma coupple from Maruvantila in Perabe village.

Postmortem was conducted in Chennai on Tuesday, and the mortal remains are being brought to Nireeksha's mother's parental home in Maruvantila, Perabe, on Wednesday May 13. Final rites and funeral will be conducted at the home of the deceased's maternal uncle in Maruvantila, Sudhanu Rai, on Wednesday, family sources confirmed.

Gopalakrishna Adyantaya operates an industry engaged in cutting metal sheets in the industrial area in Chennai. Nireeksha used to frequent this unit. When working near this machine, her shawl got stuck in the machine and she got dragged into the machine.

It is gathered that this family had visited the town last week.

    This type of accident common in Bike riding (pillion rider)..but this is really a freak accident (could have given importance to safety procedure) anyway ther is no chance for" IF". May her soul rest in peace..

    The reason for the death of this well educated innocent girl was the safety stranded of that particular company.How could they let a person with a chudidar near to the spinning machine -in the whole world any rag or clothe's if u have in u while you working is not allowed - it should be particularly coverall uniform- WE INDIAN DO NOT FOLLOW ANY SAFETY MEASURE AT ALL.

    A ghastly accident and my deepest condolences to her family, especially her poor, bereaved parents.

    I plead with girls and women who have potentially hazardous occupations to wear clothing appropriate to their jobs. Overalls, pants/jeans and a short-sleeved top, or something of that nature are ideally suited to factory settings. To think that suitable clothing could have saved this fine, bright young woman by the simple expedient of preventing an accident! Words escape me.

    We must always work on the surmise that accidents are avoidable, and not succumb to fatalism.

    May her soul rest in peace. May God grant her family the ability to deal with their grief.

    Don't plead with girls of this age please.
    They will 'wear' or 'wear not' what they want!
    In our times it was different...we hardly played 'hide and seek' and all that....
    Now running round trees, discotheques, pubs, clubs,kitty parties, lounge,parks and what have you!
    Who will listen ...?
    Do not plead please. Let them wear or wear not what they want...
    They are very very delicate and sensitive.
    I feel very sorry for the loss of this young beautiful life.What a villain this 'shawl' played here! And poets including me have written romantic poems on this 'shawl' or 'chunari' as it were!

    You have to add Tight fit Cap ( Berets ).....to cover longs hairs....Some cases Machines pulled long hair / phony tails also....

    There were times when men used to sport short hair so that they could not be pulled up by 'their hair'by their wives...
    Now it does not matter even if you are bald...Women find ways to 'pull you up' by any means...

    Very unfortunate! May God give strength to withstand this shock!
    A certain safety lapse. It is important to observe safety at work place such as boiler suit, helmet, safety shoes, goggles and so on even if you are a visitor, otherwise watch it from far. Consider safety before it is too late!!

    Indeed a sad incidence,but this is a lesson for every industry that minimum safety to be provided for human. any cutting machine ,press machine safety factor is most important ,i think it is negligence from the machine manufacturer rather than user.how the machine is passed many certificates without the safety?
