Beltangady: 40 sand trucks seized for violating ban

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, May 13: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district had placed a ban on movement of trucks carrying sand on Charmadi Ghat section of the highway between May 9 and June 8 this year.

Noting that sand transporting trucks have been overlooking this ban and using Charmadi ghat route to carry loads of sand to other districts from Dakshina Kannada, Beltangady taluk administration and police department have begun to act against errant trucks.

On Tuesday May 12, over 40 such trucks were confiscated and cases registered against them. Under the guidance of Puttur assistant commissioner, Basavaraj, tahsildar, Putta Shetty, began operations against these vehicles since Monday night. The officials are drawing support from Beltangady police in this feat.

These trucks, defying ban imposed by the deputy commissioner, continued to ply on this road, creating bottlenecks in the traffic and creating problems for other road.
