Kolkata, May 13 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh each for the families of the nine minor victims of an explosion in a fire cracker factory in West Midnapore district.

The explosion occurred May 6 in a cracker factory in Pingla area of the district killing at least 12 people and injuring four.

"We are providing compensation to the minors. The victims were poor and were not at fault. The government is providing their families monetary compensation of Rs. 2 lakh each while the four injured will be given Rs.50,000 each," Banerjee said.

The opposition-Left Front, Congress and the BJP have all been demanding a probe by a central agency claiming the Pingla blast was a terror act.
