Pakistan mourns as Karachi attack victims laid to rest

Islamabad, May 14 (IANS): A day after 45 people from a minority community were left killed in a deadly terror attack on a bus, Pakistan observed nationwide mourning on Thursday as the victims were laid to rest by people numb with grief.

Funeral prayers for the victims of the gun-attack on the bus that was carrying members of the Ismaili community were offered at the Al-Azhar Garden colony in Karachi, Geo News reported.

On Wednesday morning, gunmen stormed the bus near Safoora Chowrangi in the port city of Karachi in Sindh province, killing 45 people and leaving several others injured.

The deadly attack forced Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and army chief General Raheel Sharif to rush to Karachi and hold a high-level meeting to review the security situation and the ongoing Pakistan Rangers-led operation in the city.

The Rangers conducted a series of targeted raids in Sohrab Goth and Safoora Goth neighbourhoods later on Wednesday and arrested 18 suspects, the paramilitary force said in a statement. They gave no further details.
