Mangalore, Mar 31: Eid Milad, the twelfth day of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal was observed with devotion by Muslims here on Saturday March 31.

Devotees began their day by offering prayers in the mosques, reciting of the Holy Quran, listening to the narration of stories relating to the prophet's birth and death, miracles and deeds and greeting each others.  Thousands of Muslim brethren visited famous Ullal Dargah and offered prayers.

Devotees also took-out processions chanting Holy verses and holding banners through the streets.

The month of Rabi-ul-Awwal is the month of mercy and blessing for Muslims throughout the world. It is in this month that Almighty Allah sent his beloved Messenger Prophet Muhammad to this world. 

Muslim brethren observe this day with religious enthusiasm and solemnity, renewing their pledge to spread His message of peace, compassion and brotherhood for the betterment of entire humanity.

The whole aim of attending Milad gatherings is to show love and respect for the beloved Prophet.

In addition to the spiritual part of the celebration, on this day relatives and friends gather for a feast. Charity is given to the needy in the form of money, clothing and food which also is an important aspect of Eid Milad.



Id-e-Milad, though mostly observed as Prophet Mohammed’s birth anniversary, it is also observes his death anniversary. The day is also known by another name as Milad-un-Nabi.
