Chandigarh, Mar 31: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues has extended his greetings to people on the eve of Milad-Ul-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammad.

He called for ''renewing our resolve to dedicate ourselves to the goals of peace and work for establishing a dynamic and enlightened society through our good deeds and actions, as visualised by the great spiritual Master''.

Describing this auspicious day as an occasion of self introspection, self-purification and un-flinching devotion to God, Gen Rodrigues said that the unique mission of Prophet Mohammad was to unite humanity and make the people lead an honest, upright and virtuous life with focus on service to the humanity.

He said that this occasion demands active partnership and involvement of every individual to contribute for social transformation and upgrading the quality of life of the people.

In consonance with the teachings of Prophet Mohammad, Gen Rodrigues said the Chandigarh Administration has initiated an elaborate programme to upgrade the socio-economic, educational and health status of muslim brethern alongwith other minority communities with active involvement and participative endeavour of their respresentatives.

He said that special emphasis of this programme is on upgrading the madrasa system of education to equip youth with various professional and vocational skills.

Gen Rodrigues expressed the hope that the Milad-Ul-Nabi festival will be celebrated collectively in a traditional fervour, ushering in a new era of peace, harmony and happiness and instilling in people a sense of unity and pride in the composite culture of the country.
