Puttur: Drunken father succumbs to injury caused by son

Puttur, May 16: In an unfortunate tragedy, a father has succumbed to injury caused by his son. The father was said to be drunk when the son and son-in-law hit with a plank.

Poovappa Gowda (52) from Kadikanda near Nelyadi is the person deceased.

As per details, Poovappa Gowda was a habitual drinker. On May 12, when he was drunk, the duo of his son and son- in- law had some arguments with him. Arguments led to a quarrel. At one point drunken Poovappa was uncontrollable. The duo wanted him to calm down and come to senses. They did not find any solution other than hitting him with a plank in a fit of anger.

Poovappa who was hit with the plank fell unconscious. He was rushed to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru city immediately. But he succumbed to injury after two days.

Uppinangady police have registered the case and have done the initial investigation. The case now stands transferred to Puttur rural police station.

The two suspects have been taken into police custody.

    "They did not find any solution other than hitting him with a plank...."

    Since plank was the lethal weapon that took the life of this "drunk", both liquor and all planks should be banned.

    We should also at the same time ban Sons and Sons in Law. If the son & son in law were not there there would have been no crime.

    Alcohol is a deadly liquid which breaks families and creates havoc, I feel lets ban this deadly substance so that we all can live in peace forever!

    I don't think that banning alcohol will be a good idea. Alcohol education would be a much better alternative.
