Agreements worth $22bn inked in India-China biz forum

Shanghai, May 16 (PTI): As many as 26 business agreements worth over USD 22 billion were signed today between Indian firms -- including Adani group, Bharti Airtel and Welspun -- and thier Chinese counterparts on the last day of Narendra Modi's three-day visit to China.

These MoU and agreements span a wide range of industries, including renewable, energy, power infrastructure, steel and small & medium industries.

Among major agreements is Bharti Airtel's tie-up for credit facility of USD 2.5 billion with China Development Bank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

The Adani Group also inked an agreement with Golden Concord Holdings to establish an integrated photovoltaic industrial park in Mundra SEZ and to explore investments in gas power generation and natural gas sector.

In another pact, Adani Ports & SEZ and Guangzhou Port Authority agreed to establish "sister port relationship" between Mundra Port and Guangzhou Port.
Welspun Energy entered into a memorandum of understanding with Trina Solar of China to jointly set up a PV industry park for production of 500 MW of Photovoltaic (PV) cell and 500 MW of PV solar module in India.

"(These) are a reflection of the strong interest of Chinese companies to invest in India and contribute towards 'Make in India' initiative," an official statement said.
It further said the agreements would also facilitate cooperation between Indian and Chinese companies in the film and entertainment industry and "will help in making more Chinese friends/audiences aware of India's strength in this area."

The other significant MoUs include, IL&FS and Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC); IL&FS Energy Development Co and China Huaneng Group for 4,000 MW Nana Layja Thermal Power (Coal) project; and Jindal Steel and Power and ICBC on development of potential projects.

Technology major Infosys also entered into an MoU with People's Government of Qiannan Autonomous Prefecture to jointly build 'China India Information Service Industry Corridor' in Qinnan.

Bhushan Power and Steel too signed a pact with China National Technical Import and Export Corporation for an integrated steel project in Gujarat.

Speaking at the India China Business Forum, Modi had reached out to Chinese investors asking them to take advantage of the "winds of change" in India with a much more transparent, responsive and stable regulatory regime.

Adding on to Geoffrey's observation, let me highlight one more point that it is known to the whole universe that China is the worlds big FEKU manufacturers ..., and with this MOU's they add Make in India tag in everything they do and indirectly kill the reputation of Hindustan.

We are behind china by 100 years mark my words. These agreements like earlier one's is going to be only on paper. For India to progress and attract overseas investment
    i. We should simplify and rationalize our archaic tax regime.
ii. Should urgently reform our Judiciary. There is no justice delivery system in time.
iii. Infrastructure is thrust area, can never ignore it.

For all who talk about the investment, job opportunity and so on.. It is true that when a foreign company sets up the manufacturing unit in India it creates job which we all wanted. Some people in this tread thinks this all happened only because of Modi andf forget that this is the same party which was fighting tooth and nail against the MNCs. Remember attacks on Coca cola factory, Uma Bharathi's threat to burn the MNCs if they set up R7D center here, remember the strikes from Swadeshi Jagaran Manch.. where are they now?? Opening up the Indian market came long back and it is because of that opposition party (which is in power now) so many projects cncelled. The same BJP fought tooth and nail about nuclear agreement and now it is going from country to country for Uranium shopping. Same people said Bofors is useless but shut their mouth when those Bofors won us the Kargil war.Development is not just when you're in power but you have to think about development even when you're in opposition.

Modi perception is Every moment of my life is for the 125 crore people of India.

    Modi's perception is great.

Your perception about you will change, because the words uttered are not dead! They don’t disappear in the air. They continue to exist and influence you. The words uttered, continues to exist and influence you - The space of perception. Same way if you try other way, the other way round. Just next ten days go on telling everybody, ‘I am sick! I am sick! I am sick! I am sick! I have become old! I don’t think I can move my leg! I don’t think I can move my hand! I have joint pains! I have this! I have that!’ Go on be repeating for ten days. You will literally not only feel sick you will feel like you can’t move out of your bed. You can either make yourself sick or healthy, just by the words you utter! Making you fall sick by the words you utter is very easy. How many of you cognize what I am saying? In your life you can see it very clearly. ~~Swamy N.

According to various reports, the bilateral trade between India and China accelerated in 2014 (keeping up with the previous momentum) to a massive USD 70.59 billion.

By all accounts this should be enough news for cheer.

Unfortunately though, the Indians may not be that cheerful when the full news becomes evident.

India's exports to China amount to USD 16.4 Billion.

China's exports to India amount to nearly USD 55 Billion.

China exported 3.5 times as much as it imported from India!

The question in my mind is why the Indian media and indeed Mr Modi are not highlighting these facts?

I am not blaming Mr Modi for the trade in 2014. But, Mr Modi's visit to China has been covered by the PMO as if we are the great winners.
