India has surpassed China's GDP under Modi: Parrikar

Panaji, May 16 (IANS): Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has overtaken China in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for the first time, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Saturday.

Parrikar was addressing a press conference organised at the state heardquarters here.

"Inflation came down, employment rate increased, for the first time I think the economy grew at 7 per cent and more. First time we overtook China in terms of GDP growth," Parrikar said.

"We have crossed 7 per cent for this year. Growth is uniformly good... Over the last two years it (growth) was hanging between was 4.5 to 5 per cent. This time we have managed to cross 7 to 7 and-a-half percent," Parrikar said.

Parrikar, the former Goa chief minister, also said that while the going was good due to the decisions taken by the NDA government, the real impact of the good governance would be visible in the coming years.

"This rate of progress will continue in the coming year too. And the impact of the tasks done (by the NDA government) will be seen in the coming years," Parrikar said.
