Udupi, May 17: An accident on NH 66 near Pangala here resulted in heavy traffic jam on Tuesday May 16.

The head-on collision took place between a fish-laden lorry and a tanker.

Near the same spot, a cement lorry had overturned on Monday May 15 night. It is said that driver of the fish-laden lorry was distracted by the sight of the cement lorry lying beside the road, and failed to see the oncoming tanker. The two vehicles collided, but no injury was reported.

The fish-laden lorry was moving from Mangaluru to Udupi, while the tanker was plying from Udupi to Mangaluru.

The accident resulted in a heavy gridlock, with traffic on both sides of the road being affected. All through the morning, commuters struggled to get through.

Traffic was affect up till Kaup on one end and Udyavar on the other. The Kaup police who arrived at the spot took great pains to clear the jam, and after much efforts, finally succeeded.
