Kundapur: Two boys drown while swimming in Sowparnika river

Kundapur, May 17: In a tragic incident, two boys drowned while swimming in Sowparnika river at Tariberu, Aloor here on Sunday May 17.

The deceased have been identified as Naveen Devadiga (16) and his neighbour Akshay Devadiga (16).

Both the boys had finished SSLC and were home for vacations.

On Sunday, they went for a swim in Sowparnika river, but unfortunately, both of them drowned.

Naveen was the son of Narasimha and Yashoda Devadiga, while Akshay was the son of Shanker and Jaya Devadiga. Naveen has an elder sister, while Akshay has one brother and two sisters.

The bodies of the deceased were retrieved and sent to government hospital mortuary in Kundapur.

Gangolli police have registered a case.

    So many young lives lost to drowning. Swimming classes should be a mandatory part of primary education as it is in so many parts of the world.

    Never play in deep water, if you don't know swimming. Water does does not give one more than 5 minutes & no second chance. Parents should take more responsibility & learning swimming should me made compulsory in schools.

    They were not playing in deep waters. It was an undetected deep hole which unfortunately no body suspected was there.. It was considered safe place to play around.
