Did '36 Vayadhinile' with fire inside me: Jyotika

Chennai, May 18 (IANS): Actress Jyotika, who is overwhelmed with the positive response to her comeback film "36 Vayadhinile", says she did it with the belief that it will cement the position of women in their daily lives, and heroines in a male-dominated industry.

“I’m overwhelmed with the love and respect towards ‘36 Vayadhinile’. I did the film with a fire inside me, believing that women should be respected for being homemakers as they juggle between many roles in day-to-day life, thereby losing the drive to chase their own dreams,” Jyotika said in a statement.

In the movie, Jyotika plays a character 'too old' to have her own dreams and to pursue them.

“I also did the film because I felt it will give heroines a better standing in this male-dominated industry and it will make women understand that our identity lies in our self-respect, confidence and achievements, and not just in marital status,” she said.

Directed by Rosshan Andrews, the film is the remake of Malayalam hit “How Old Are You”, which reintroduced actress Manju Warrier after several years.

“36 Vayadhinile”, which is running to packed houses, is produced by Jyotika’s actor-husband Suriya under him home banner 2D Entertainment.
