Mumbai, May 19: Deepika Padukone's endearing performance seems to have captured the nation's attention, with many choosing her road trip oer Ranbir's 1960's street fighting skills in Bombay Velvet.

Director Anurag Kashyap wrote on his Facebook page, “A lot of people do not connect with it and a small number of people did... Maybe our experimenting with the narrative didn’t work for most but I firmly believe in the film.”

Trade Analyst Komal Nahta summed up the box office collections of the film saying, “It’s very bad. ‘Bombay Velvet’ earned just 16.25 crore. That should have been the day 1 collection instead of the weekend collection."

Piku on the other hand was acclaimed as one of the biggest hits of 2015, in overseas collections by Taran Adarsh. It made Rs. 25 crores in its first weekend and followed it up with Rs.14.60 crore in its second weekend, totalling its earnings to Rs.56.02 crore. The story wasn't very different overseas either as the movie saw more than a fair share of footfalls, and earned $4.3 million (Rs.27.34 crore).

In the near future both the films might be competing for audience attention with Kangana Ranaut's Tanu Weds Manu Returns which is ready for nationwide release this Friday.
