Media Release

Kuwait, May 20: Nachom-ia Kumpasar (Lets Dance to the Rhythm) is a Konkani period film focused on the lives of Lawrence Vaz the musician (Vijay Maurya) and Donna Pereira the singer (Palomi Ghosh). The title is taken from the Konkani song from the 1960s that was composed by Chris Perry and performed by Lorna Cordeiro.

Angelo Braganza of Goa Folklore Productions produced the film that was directed by Bardroy Barretto, ad film maker, with Ronnie Monserrate and Jackson Pereira in charge of the musical score.
The film incorporates a strong cast of talented actors and actresses who easily charm the audience. The hero Vijay Maurya has a good star presence, the lead Joe Fernandes sings and plays the piano while the lead heroine Palomi Gosh enchants as a Goan despite her non Goan heritage.

The film which was completed in three years, celebrates Goan music through the struggle and triumphs of the legendary musicians of the 1960s and 1970s who unfortunately, didn’t receive the recognition they deserved.

The film premiered in Doha-Qatar at the Royal Plaza Cinema on November 28, 2014 and was subsequently released in Goa at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on December 4, 2014. Since its launch, the film has earned a large amount of support and praise, as well as it has garnered two awards— the best Konkani film and best production design at the 62nd national film awards, Delhi. The film netted the best production design award for recreating the 1960s era of past Goa with extensive detail and was conferred the best Konkani film for its nostalgic tribute to Goa’s unique musical legacy, narrated through the engaging characters of talented artistes that finally have their time in the limelight. The Goa legislative assembly congratulated the makers of the Konkani film 'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' for winning honours at the national awards.

Goan singer Cielda Pereira is credited with the vocals for most of the songs in the film, and all of the main songs are performed live and recreated to introduce an authentic touch to the musical setting. The lead pair are non-Goans, but the shining talent ensemble features Goan actors and actresses namely comedian Natto, Prince Jacob, John D'silva, Samy Braganza, comedian Kenny, Selwyn Braganza, Roy Menezes, Abdonio, Meena Leitao, Mathew Araujo, Meenacshi Martins and Roque Lazarus.

Director Bardroy Barretto did a marvellous job of bringing out the entire cast, and when the film is broadcast viewers can easily discern his artful direction. Palomi and Vijay, both with experience in movies and ad films, are able to highlight the emotional and passionate journey of the characters onscreen.

With a smaller budget compared to Bollywood movies, Nachom-ia Kumpasar stresses on its many strong points like the stellar characters, great sound tracks and a captivating story. There are twenty timeless Konkani songs intertwined in the story, and director Bardroy ensures their meaningful quality resonates with the young and the old. With many positive reviews, the film has so far met with resounding success as the audience comes to appreciate the rich musical heritage of Goa.
