Udupi: Aged scooter rider killed by tipper

Udupi, May 20: Handadi Bailumane Vasant Shetty (70), a well-known personality in the region because of his social service initiatives and jovial behaviour, was killed after a tipper truck knocked him down at Dharmavara near Brahmavara in the taluk. The accident occurred on the night of Monday May 18.

Shetty was on his way home in his two-wheeler, when a tipper came from behind and unexpectedly hit his vehicle from behind. Shetty, who fell to the road, was immediately moved to a private hospital in Brahmavar and then to Manipal hospital. Efforts made by doctors there to save him did not bear fruit.

Vasant Shetty has left behind wife and two sons. He was the managing trustee of Handadi Brahmasthana. In the recent past, he had also actively got involved with the renovation of Handadi Sri Brahmabaidarkala Garody. He was a farmer and LIC agent too.

A case stands registered in Brahmavar police station relating to this accident.
