Panneerselvam resigns, Jayalalithaa set to return as Tamil Nadu CM

Chennai, May 22 (PTI): Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today accepted the resignation of Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and extended an invitation to AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa to form the government "at the earliest."

Rosaiah also asked Jayalalithaa to send a list of people to be appointed as ministers with their portfolios.

Earlier in the day Jayalalithaa was unanimously elected AIADMK's Legislature Party Leader, paving the way for her return as chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the fourth time.

An early morning meeting of party MLAs here elected her unanimously, party sources said.

Party Treasurer and Chief Minister O Panneeerselvam forwarded the motion to elect her as legislature party leader which was seconded by Electricity Minister Natham R Vishwanathan, the sources said, adding, it was adopted unanimously.

A beaming Cooperative Minister, Sellur K Raju, when asked if Jayalalithaa had been elected as LPP leader, said: "this is the happiest day of our life."

The 67-year-old leader was disqualified following her conviction in the Rs 66.66 crore disproportionate assets case by a trial court in Bengaluru on September 27.

The Karnataka High Court had subsequently acquitted her of the charges on May 11. Jayalalithaa is later expected to stake claim for forming the government, with the resignation of incumbent Panneerselvam being a mere formality.

In the resolution moved by him, Panneerselvam praised the leader, describing her as the "permanent General Secretary" of the AIADMK.

He asked the MLAs present there to show their sign of approval by giving a "loud applause".

The meeting was also attended by some rebel MLAs of the Opposition DMDK. Later, Panneerselvam, accompanied by some of his senior cabinet colleagues, visited the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalithaa.

The AIADMK supremo is later scheduled to garland the statues of Tamil Nadu leaders -- party founder and her mentor MG Ramachandran and Dravidian veterans E V Ramasamy popularly known as Periyar and C N Annadurai, thus making her first public appearance since her acquittal on May 11.

All know how jaya became amma to tamilnaadu. From film field to goddess like stature is a carefully crafted public image. Most of these icons have double image. In real professional world they use threats, exploitation, blackmail, sex, crime and murders to achieve wealth as well as money. Take any great personality from glamor world, their secrets are the same n well guarded. But their public image is god-like in the eyes of ordinary people. People will do anything for their idols. People are not ready to believe harsh facts about these stars. Such is the adoration n blind faith by follower. If someone speaks truth, he or she will be killed n family destroyed.

If same mistake is committed by ordinary Indian and a elite person, then the verdict also is different. Poor chap will loose everything in going thru court procedures but jaya like people get preferential treatment. People r fooled by telling them law is same for all. Crime is same but kind of lawyers u hire or kind of clout u got might change the normal direction of justice delivery process. High profile people can play with witnesses n police investigators as well as Indian law to bail them out completely. Not a single politician at the highest level is proven guilty n made to go through punishment. Lawmakers have kept escape routes for these criminals..... highly learned n highly payed lawyers know how to prove innocence of criminals. Damage is experienced, criminal activity happen rampantly, people know loot is going on. Truth is there for everyone to see. But to prove a guilty person a guilty in Indian judiciary is next to impossible.

The most luckiest people in this world are Indian Politian's. Do whatever crimes like corruption, murders, rapes or whatever it is. The lower courts will punish them and the higher courts like High Court, Supreme Court will give them "clean chit". Oh my God!

    j.anata,

I have seen T.N. extensively. Yes, it is developed. I do not have any thing against her, why blame her alone, for there are so many corrupt / criminals enjoying power. However, I do not attribute all development to her alone.
It is because of good people over there.
That way entire south,Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana is well developed.
