Udupi: DVS inaugurates BJP rural office; says Modi govt has changed India's image

Udupi, May 22: Union law minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Friday May 22 inaugurated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rural office 'Jagjeevandas Shetty Bhavan' at Madhuvan Complex, Brahmavar here. A party workers' convention was also held on the occasion.

Sadananda Gowda also flagged off a bike rally which commenced from Karavali Junction to Brahmavar.

Addressing the gathering, Sadananda Gowda said, "In just one year, the NDA government has succeeded in creating jobs, simplifying law, strengthening the country economically by providing transparent administration."

Listing out the NDA's achievements, he said, "With measures like probe into black money, introduction of Jan Dhan Yojana and uniform tax, proposal of cashless transactions in banking and many more, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has succeeded in bringing in discipline in our economy."

He also lambasted the Congress-led state government for criticizing the Modi-led government instead of speaking of its own achievements during the recent Sadhana Samavesha held to celebrate its two years in power in the state.

"The Congress has been criticizing the Prime Minister for undertaking foreign tours which are aimed to strengthen the country's economy and policy. But they forget that their vice-president Rahul Gandhi had gone missing for 55 days," he quipped.

"The country which was barren during the UPA regime has now been made fertile by Narendra Modi. The Land Acquisition Bill has been formulated keeping the welfare of farmers in mind," he added.

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary delivered the keynote address in which he drew comparisons between the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government and the present Siddaramaiah-led government. Former MLA Raghupati Bhat gave the introductory address.

Speaking to reporters earlier, DVS replied to a question about the mistakes in PUC paper valuation and confusion related to CET and said, "The exam board should not be gambling with students' future. They have been following unsystematic method in the examination system. The education board is answerable to the students and their parents. Now it is too late. The state government has been creating confusion among students."

Declining to comment on CBI probe in the death of IAS officer D K Ravi, he said, "I am not going to say anything on IAS officer D K Ravi’s murder investigation and also on the findings till now. But I would like to say that CBI should complete the investigation as soon as possible."

Replying to Sorake’s statement about Adani buying UPCL as part of Modi's 'strategy' to take away land from farmers, DVS said, "UPCL is not a property of the government. Congress party is spreading rumours regarding Land Acquisition Bill. The Congress is repeating the same lie over and over again."

Asked how many marks he would give to Siddaramaiah's performance as chief minister, he quipped, “I am not going to evaluate his paper because he has given an blank paper and has not mentioned his registration number."

"Both centre and state should be working together for the development of the nation," he added.

He alleged that state government has failed to achieve anything during its tenure so far. “It is wrong to say that we have fulfilled people's wishes by completing one or two works. The ‘Bhagyas’ have been losing their real meaning in the public domain."

Modi govt has changed India's image: DVS in Karkala

R B Jagadish
Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (EP)

Karkala, May 22: "The union government has made unprecedented achievements in the last one year of its governance and that has made the world look at India with admiration," said union minister of law D V Sadananda Gowda.

DVS was speaking after inaugurating a convention of BJP workers at Manjunath Pai hall here on Friday, May 22.

"The Congress-led state government also held a convention after completing two years in power, but it used the platform only to criticize the opposition. However the achievements of the NDA government during the first year of its rule has changed the image of the country. The corruption-free governance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in every corner of the country has made us proud. I am prepared for public debate if the state government gives an opportunity to compare the achievements of the state and the union government," he said.

"The future of the country depends on economic discipline. The economic system and public participation were on the verge of collapse during the UPA reign. Our government has given priority to financial stability and built good rapport with foreign countries, thus strengthening the country's economy," he said.

"The results of Karkala constituency will stand out in the gram panchayat elections. Success is possible when people's representative work as an ordinary worker," he added.

He also said that the union government will bring a new legislation with regard to general sales tax to maintain uniformity in prices across the country. That will prevent differences in prices from state to state, he added.

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary said that when the BJP government was in power in the state, it strengthened the Panchayat Raj system. "It gave a clear shape to decentralization system by appointing 2,500 PDOs, 2,500 secretaries and 1,500 account assistants. Besides that, as per the report of the Third Finance Commission, the ertswhile BJP government provided additional grant of Rs 2 crore to zilla panchayat and Rs 1 crore to taluk panchayat. It increased the annual grant to taluk panchayat from Rs 6 lac to Rs 12 lac. However, the Congress government ordered that 60% of the grant be set aside for electric bills and staff salaries," he said.

Chief opposition whip and MLA V Sunil Kumar, senior leader Bola Prabhakar Kamath, advocate M K Vijaya Kumar, zilla panchayat president Savitha Kotian, district BJP president Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, president of the constituency Maniraja Shetty, state working committee member Udayakumar Shetty, district vice-president Bola Sadashiva Shetty, zilla panchayat member Udaya S Kotian, BJP leaders Shyamala Kunder, Pradeep Kotian, Mutlupadi Sathish Shetty, Arif Kallotte, Ravindra Madivala, Surendra Poojary and others were present.

Navin Nayak welcomed. Maniraja Shetty delivered the keynote address, Sanooru Narasimha Kamath compered the programme. Vikhyath V Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
