Beltangady, May 22: An alleged attempt to 'murder' Praja Prabhutva Vedike leader Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi was reported at Ujire here on Friday May 22.

It is alleged that Srinath Prabhu, who was Thimarodi's classmate, tried to mow him down with his car.

Sources said that when Thimarodi was going in his Scorpio car, Srinath who was in another car asked him to stop and said he had something to talk about. When Thimarodi got out of his car, Srinath allegedly drove his car haphazardly and tried to mow him down.

Soon after the incident, alleging that Srinath had tried to kill Thimarodi, the latter's supporters gathered at the spot and allegedly assaulted Srinath Prabhu.

While Thimarodi escaped from the incident unhhurt, Srinath was admitted to hospital. Two other person were also injured, sources said.

The police who arrived on the scene took Srinath Prabhu's car into custody. It is also learnt that Thimarodi's supporters gathered at the police station in protest. 

A complaint was filed in the police station later.
