Udupi: Man held for selling outdated Brazilian currency notes

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, May 26: A person named Imran (24) from Handelu in Puttige village in Dakshina Kannada district was arrested by the police personnel of the district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) here on Monday May 25.

Imran has been charged with cheating people by selling them old currency notes of Brazil, which are not in circulation now.

The arrested accused reportedly was found to be in possession of 574 currency notes bearing the name, Cruzado Banco Central Do Brasil with a face value of 500 Brazilian Reals each, and 92 currency notes of 100 Reals each, totalling 2,96,200 Brazilian currency (about Rs 59,24,000). The police have seized these currency notes from him.

A case registered in the town police station here alleges that the accused was defrauding people by selling these currency notes to them, duly making them believe that these notes are still in circulation.

The raid was conducted by DCIB personnel under the directions of district superintendent of police, K Annamalai, and guidance of additional superintendent of police, Santosh Kumar, and Udupi subdivision deputy superintendent of police, K M Chandrashekhar, by DCIB inspector, R R Jaishankar and other staff members.

First of all were our people buying it more then 1 or 2 or in big amount? if 1 or 2 for sure it is for collection if it is more then that, then why? there is no world cup, so why? in that case the police have to arrest the people too who purchased in big amount.

In my opinion, the buyers of the currency are the biggest fraudulent than the seller himself. If at all opted to have foreign currency in black market, should have gone for US$ or GCC notes. (still it is illegal)

Just to catch one person with seven bundles of old foreign notes….Eight Officers gathered together and photographed…..It’s good that they made him sit in front of them, else quite difficult to point out the real culprit. Oye Imran…..don’t get involved in old foreign notes dealing better you should engage in “Lottery Bhaya”
