Mangalurean girls Adya and Anieka top UAE in CBSE class XII exams

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 26: In a heartening news, two girls hailing from Mangaluru have topped the UAE in the CBSE class XII exams, the results of which were announced on Monday May 25.

The two girls are Adya Kiran who topped the science stream and Anieka Sequeira who scored the highest in humanities.

Anieka Sequeira

Adya Kiran

Adya Kiran of Indian High School topped UAE in the science stream, with a brilliant score of 490 of 500 (98 percent). She scored 99 in mathematics, physics, and computer science, 98 in chemistry and 95 in English.

Speaking to media, an elated Adya said that she was happy that her hard work had borne sweet results. She said for two years she put in great efforts into her studies while also giving ample attention to extra-curricular activities. "I did not such results. Everyone is happy with my performance. Scores of people have called to congratulate me," she added.

She credited her success to the constant support and encouragement from her mother, who helped her stay focussed on studies.

Adya plans to pursue computer engineering, probably in an Indian institution of repute, and has already written her JEE exams. She feels that CBSE exams should focus more on testing the student's logic and ability to think rather than just memorizing skills.

Anieka Sequeira, another girl of Mangaluru origin, and also a student of Indian High School, Dubai, topped humanities streams with 94.80 percent. She shared the top spot with Vidya Vijay from Delhi Private School, Sharjah.

A jubilant Anieka said that she felt very happy to have made her parents proud by topping the exams. A brilliant student throughout, she was topper in her school for the last two years too. "I was expecting to top the school, but being a UAE topper is just out of the world," she said.

Recalling her experience of writing the exams, she said that what she feared most was blanking out in the exam hall after studying hard. "It had happened to me in grade 11 as I had lost sleep while preparing for my entrepreneurship exam. I tried my best keep my calm and succeeded," she said.

The UAE topper in commerce stream is Ashly Maria Saju with a score of 97 percent.

Anaika Bonita Rodrigues

Anaika Bonita Rodrigues from Indian High School, Dubai and Vaishnavi Sivaprasad Neelakandh from Abu Dhabi Indian School and were jointly ranked second in the commerce stream.
