Udupi: Shed with firewood stack at Padubidri burns down

Udupi, May 27: A shed in which firewood worth lacs of rupees had been stacked for future use was burnt down due to accidental fire. This incident occurred opposite Budhia Petrol Bunk on national highway at Yermal Bada near Padubidri on Tuesday May 26.

This shed, owned by a local named Hanif, is located by the side of the kitchen of the house. Accidentally, spark from the hearth in the kitchen flew towards the stack of firewood and ignited fire, it is learnt.

Owner of the place, Hanif, said that the firewood stock was worth several lacs of rupees. Locals rushed to the spot and worked to douse the fire. As the fire was huge, fire brigade was called, and the firemen succeeded in dousing the fire, but not before almost the entire stock turned into ashes.

Padubidri police visited the spot and conducted investigation.
