Italian town sets new Tiramisu record


Rome, May 27 (IANS): An Italian town has set a record of making the largest tiramisu dessert in culinary history, said a media report.

Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert and the word 'Tiramisu' in Italian means 'pick me up'.

The dessert is made of ladyfingers - finger shaped sponge biscuit, dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar and mascarpone cheese, flavoured with cocoa.

Weighing in at 3,015 kg, the giant dessert made in the town of Gemona, beats the previous Guinness World Record set in March by over 1,000 kg, The Local news portal reported.

Around 200 people, including 30 pastry chefs helped to prepare the dessert which consisted of 250 trays of Tiramisu.

The dessert was invented during the 1960s at the restaurant "Le Beccherie" in Treviso, Italy.
