Six injured in Meghalaya IED blast

Shillong, May 27 (IANS): Six people, three of them women, were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a market complex in Meghalaya on Wednesday, police said.

The explosion took place at 11 a.m. at a hardware store in Meghalaya's Tura town.

"The blast took place at 11 a.m. inside a hardware store at Tura super market complex. It was an IED blast and we are collecting the details," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) G.H.P. Raju told IANS.

Of the six injured, police said two are in a serious condition and all of them have been rushed to the government-run Tura Civil Hospital.

"The blast is mainly to create fear psychosis in the minds of the people. We are still investigating into it and we are not ruling out the involvement of militant groups," Raju said.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, a massive combing operation has been launched in the area to find and arrest the people who triggered the blast.
