Udupi, May 27: Dissatisfied with the functioning of the central government, CITU members staged a protest against the central government policies in a unique way by burning an effigy on Tuesday May 26 near the clock tower here.

Addressing the gathering, Vishwanath Rai alleged that the central government has been functioning in favour of the rich class and corporators for the past one year. The Modi government is a monopoly and his promises have created illusion among the public. Modi's policy encourages purchasing of goods although he is promoting FDI in the Indian market.

The CITU members said that the rates of petrol and diesel decrease considerably- around 5 times a year whereas on the other side the excise duty (tax) has increased. The burden of tax has become a heavy load for the middle and the lower class. Modi's motto of 'acche din aane wale hai' has failed in its excecution. Other reforms like the land acquisition bill has created confusion and has curbed the interests of the farmers by the open market system. Regarding the labour code on wages he alleged that, these bills have taken away conveniences like allowances and monthly pensions and so on.

The central government is controlling the grants of anganwadi and mid day meal funds. Modi is promoting FDI policy in the name of make in India. It will be a big challenge for small scale industries and informal workers.
