Mangaluru: No cover-up in sexual assault case - Mangalore One school

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, May 29: More than two-and-a-half months after the sexual assault on an LKG student, the management of Mangalore One School on Friday May 29 came out in the open to clarify on the incident, and said that there had been no cover-up or negligence on the school's part.

An LKG student of the school had been sexually assaulted allegedly by Madhukar, the driver of her school van on March 13 this year. Since then, there have been demands by a few, specially the United Muslim Organization, DK unit to close down the school.

Addressing a press meet on Friday, chairman of Mangalore One School Sharat Saxena said, "Disinformation is going around regarding the issue. Why should I protect the accused - and how can I protect? I am as normal as anyone, and I can assure that there has been no cover-up. Within half an hour the police had arrested the driver, so the question of a cover-up does not arise at all.

"We had done police verification before employing the driver. He had no previous criminal record and there were no complaints against him in the past. We also installed CCTV cameras in the school premises even before the guidelines were given by the government. We met the mother and the child the very next day and promised to do whatever we could to help them. We even offered free education to the child in our school," he said.

Asked why the school management took so long to approach the media, he said, "I should have held a press conference before, but I thought police was conducting inquiry and did not expect things to blow out of proportion. I am also media shy."

About security measures taken folllowing the incident, he said, he said, "We have appointed lady attendants for every school vehicle and doubled the number of CCTV cameras.

"We have not done anything wrong, so how can we be held responsible? We have done everything expected of us. We could have been held responsible if there had been negligence from our part, but that is not the case," he reiterated.

"The issue was communalized and politicized. There is no communal angle to it - for us all religions are the same. Here a girl child has been affected and we are sensitive to her needs," Saxena added.

In a press note, the school further states, "All allegations (against the school) are totally baseless and false, and these have arisen due to two reasons: (1) Pure ignorance of people regarding the incident; and (2) Deliberate attempt to cause damage to the school mainly by our competitors.

"To put the record straight, we present the following 100% true facts:

- Management is interfering in investigation to protect accused driver (allegation) - Totally false. The Management never wanted to protect the accused. Also, the management cannot protect the accused and what they say has no value anyway. The police at the highest level (viz CID) is conducting the investigation. The CID will definitely do justice. The accused has been in jail for over 75 days, and he will be chargesheeted if found guilty on evidence.

- Management is negligent in the commission of offence (allegation) - This is totally untrue. All government departments (including police, DC, education and women child department) have conducted enquiries against the school, and nobody found any negligence on the part of the school.

Principal Naavya, headmistress Nayan, and educationist J M Shahid were present.

i dont know who is madhukar of this case.

i dont know who is sharat saxena of this school.

i dont know who is ashraff /child/parents & other people in press conference.

i dont know where is this controversial school is... in fact i never heard about this school before this episode.

I STRONGLY AGREE THAT NO CHILD RAPIST HAS RIGHT TO LIVE IN THIS PLANET... but our judgement should not be based on breaking news...

i am following this news in daijiworld & that is the only source of information about this school & episode for me.

Not only in this case, but any cases of misconduct, we the people who did not see the scene should not judge the fello human being based on breaking news …..
There are news about false allegations also…
i am against biased judgement of people ( people of all category!!!)Based on sensational news / imaginations / assumptions & taking law on hands /mob justice/ pressurizing authorities without conclusive evidence.
If the accused is the culprit, let him be punished accordingly. I do not support any criminal.

Certain things are felt better by the heart than the brain!!!!!!!.

    may god bless all.

If the school is now telling us they did not try to coverup, why did hush up the incident and make up a story when parents went to complain? Why did they make public statement denying the incident? Your school's reputation is not more important than our children's safety, Mr. Saxena

I think now the justice should be expedited just because a probable innocent is rotting in jail. Even if found not guilty, it would be difficult for him to live a normal life again in this society.
He could well file a defamation case against ashraf and other pfis and kfds.

    let us maintain calm.

i dont think that anyone will commit rape on 4-5 year old child.

even if something wrong might have happened, there are ways to inquire & deal with the situation.

first let the govt. take all necessary steps to prevent any harm to the child.

second give honest opportunity for the alleged culprit ( I REPEAT , ALLEGED CULPRIT!!!, NOT PROVEN) to give his version. who knows he may be really innocent. by chance, if he is innocent, can these organizations & harsh commenting daiji readers bring back the human dignity of that adult male ? ( purposefully i am not writing his name)

please remember, tomorrow you or your son or your father or your brother may be the victim of a gender biased opinion.

WE SHOULD NOT ALLOW ANYBODY TO TAKE LAW IN THEIR HANDS... some "stupid" daiji reader is commenting about mob justice.... how bad he should be....

we really dont know what exactly happened on that fatefull day... BUT ONE THING IS VERY CLEAR, THAT THE ISSUE IS POLITICIZED & DIRTY POLITICS IS INVOLVED.

you can rally with the help of money & muscle power & political power, but can not escape from god , at least on the final day.

for that adult male, already he lost his social life. whether he is culprit or not, nobody will know the truth, but god.

even the child may not tell the fact, as she is already brainwashed.!!!!!

if situation continues in this political & communal angle like this, god also can not save dakshina kannada.

recently, i was at railway station at 3 am to receive my relative. A single female passenger was looking to hire an auto or cab at odd hour of 3 AM, nobody was willing i heard they were telling " yereg bod marayare, elle rape case paddunda kashta!!!!"

now auto drivers / teachers/lift operators /doctors/advocates/police/shop keepers/bankers.... everybody is worried.... to do their work because of gender bias/cast bias/ one sided media reports...

please stop politicizing every issue, if you want prosperous south canara.

You think No one will rape a 4 year old? Which country are you living in? Have you opened a newspaper lately? You talk about "How you would feel if your father/brother is in the position of the culprit"! Well, how would you feel if your daughter/ sister came home and narrated the ordeal that the little girl did? I would love to see you defend the rapist then. You want people to believe your half baked theories over the ordeal narrated by the little girl? Are you human at all or has excessive love for religion stripped you of all humanity?

Unfortunately, for you Mr. kumar, it's not the kid who came in pain bleeding and complaining to her parents who was "brainwashed". It is you. Get well soon, for if somebody like Madhukar decides to target someone in your family next, your reaction would be quite different

Well, I hope Mr. Kumar will give the same detailed explanation if a girl from his family too comes home and complains in a similar situation about a similar ordeal. I'm sure he'll try to tell the child why she's actually 'brainwashed' and Madhukar uncle (or whatever his name is, i don't care) is actually a nice guy who should be given the benefit of doubt for now. I'm sure he won't fight to bring the culprit to book for fear of politicising the incident. And one more thing, I'm sure he'll complain to the child about how rickshawallahs are not even picking up people at 3 AM due to her silly complaints. I'm sure Mr. Kumar will be consistent in such matters

definitely i am not supporting the adult male of this case & surely i am feeling bad for the child.

but i was upset with various polical persons of all the parties about reacting for this type of news without even thinking for a second.....

i agree that some news of rape on child was surfaced in media repeatedly, but at the same time false allegations are also seen in media.

i wanted to tell that let us not react without thinking. let us not have biased comments.

i mind is with the child of this case, but we dont know what exactly happened. god only knows how much is the truth in various news. everything is "feku" now a days...

i wish our mothers/sisters/daughters should not suffer in the hands of dirty men.

also i wish that our decent men should not be suffered due to false allegations.

hope we understand that we should not hurt anyone just based on a sensational news without knowing the facts.

JUST TO REMIND OUR FREINDS - ONE HEADMASTER WAS SUSPENDED AT UDUPI DISTRICT BY CM BASED ON THE LETTER BY ANONYMOUS PERSON AT SHIRVA. LATER IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS FAKE !!! DO YOU REMEMBER THE EPISODE FRIENDS....

thank you. may god bless all !!!

Mr.Kumar says correct. Local people also knows Mr.Madukar is good person. Any one go and collect opinion of other children or local people who seen him. But simply blaming and spoiling name is not good yet all. Equal chance to given to person to prove. That why our constitutions is great in the world.

Disgusting to see people defending rapists - yes, almost every rapist have enough relatives vouching for the fact that they knew him as a "good person" - even Ram Singh of Delhi did. So maybe next time we have a case of rape or murder, we won't go by the evidence, we won't go by the statement of the victim, we'll just go by the statements of perverts like kumar and pradeep declaring the culprit innocent because they can quote somebody he was a good guy(because of excessive love for one's religion?). We don't need the law anymore, we only need certificates from Pradeep and co to a culprits innocence. Yes, that is what this country has come to. And we all need to hang our heads in shame

If the school management did try to cover up, why did they deny the incident in the first place before the police could even probe - that too in a public statement? Why did they try to cook a story to the parents that the girl fell of a chair, and protect the accused? Why did they refuse to hand it to the police? Now that the issue has turned public, they say they are willing cooperate and did not attempt a cover up? Do they think the public has collective amnesia? I'm sorry sir, but you're lying shamelessly
