Mangaluru, May 31: Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Union (DKDWJU), Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust on Saturday May 30 jointly celebrated Press Club Day at Lions Club Seva Mandir, Mallikatta here.
Daijiworld's ace photographer Dayanand Kukkaje, and journalists Mounesh Vishwakarma, B Ravindra Shetty, Agnel Rodrigues, and Apul Ira were honoured on the occasion for their service to the field of journalism and photography.
Addressing the gathering, MP Nalin Kumar who was the chief guest said, "People in journalism field are always busy. They adapt to the situations very fast. It is good that despite their busyschedules they have managed to gather here to celebrate Press Club Day.
"Journalists do a commendable job of pointing out problems in society. They keep the society informed. The professionalism of journalists is admirable especially that of Mangaluru journalists. Union minister Prakash Javadekar who came to Mangaluru recently spoke highly about the journalists here. I am conveying his message to you." Nailn added.
Noted music director and singer Gurukiran said, "There is similarity between artistes and media persons. Both work under huge pressure and it is the media which makes an artiste shine."
After honouring the notable journalists of DK, president of Karnataka Working Journalists' Union N Raju said, "Journalists are living amidst several problems, there is no security for the life and work. It is indeed sad to see that elected members are not raising issues in parliament regarding the problems faced by journalists."
Senior journalist and Udayavani bureau chief Manohar Prasad, MLA Mohiuddin Bava were present on the dais.
Topers of SSLC exams Sindu Rai and Ankita Nirpaje, 'Chaali Polilu' Tulu film director Ravindra Shetty Kavoor, Harish Karkera, Leelaksha Karkera of Namma Kudla TV were felicitated on the occasion.
Winners of press sports day were given prizes.
Patrika Bhavan Trust president B Ravindra Shetty, secretary of Mangaluru Press Club Srinivas Nayak Indraje, former president P B Harish Rai were present.
Senior journalist Jagannath Shetty Bala, president of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union welcomed the guests, vice-president of Press Club Ronald Anil Fernandes delivered the keynote address, and treasurer Ibrahim Adkastala introduced the journalists who were honoured. DKDWJU executive commitee member Dayanand Kukkaje read out the names of sports day winners. Press Club president Ramakrishna R proposed the vote of thanks. Naresh Kumar Sashithlu compered the programme.
Cultural events also were organized on the occasion.
