Dubai cops prevent woman from suicide

Jun 1, (Emirates 247) : A Brazilian woman threatened to jump from the 8th floor of a building in Dubai following a rift with her Arab boyfriend but was dissuaded by the police.

Major-General Khamis Al Mazinah, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police said, cops rushed to Alkhail housing complex after a report by guards that the woman was standing at the window, throwing personal items down and threatening to jump off.

“Our men rushed to the area where they saw the woman was threatening to jump down…she was behaving nervously and our men dealt with the situation accordingly…after nearly an hour of negotiations, they succeeded in persuading her to change her mind and enter her apartment,” he told ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily.

Assistant Police Commander Major-General Khalil Al Mansouri said the woman appeared to be in a hysterical condition when she threatened to jump down at around 8am. He said the woman told investigators later that she had a large amount of alcoholic drinks after her boyfriend insulted her.

He said the woman was taken to hospital and was charged with attempting suicide and getting drunk.
