Prakash Payyar's book of Tulu poems released in Dubai

Dubai, Jun 1: The Gulf edition of 'Uretta Kannuda Siri', a collection of Tulu poems by Prakash Rao Payyar, was released in a function held at Fortune Grand Hotel apartment at Bur Dubai on Friday May 29. A book review session was also held on the occasion.

The book was released at Tulu Sahitya Academy, Mangaluru a week ago.

Before the book release, the dignitaries lit the traditional lamp. Prakash Rao Payyar welcomed the guests after a prayer song rendered by Reshma Shetty. Presidents of all UAE-based Kannada, Tulu, Konkani and Beary associations and other dignitaries were honoured with bouquets. Sampat Shetty read out the list of books Payyar has penned and the awards and honours he has received.

Introducing the book to the guests, Gopinath Rao opined that the collection of poems is full of the flavour of the vibrant culture of Tulunadu. It has everything one has possibly seen or wished to see while in one's native place, he said, applauding Payyar for his efforts.

The book was later released by Sudhir Kumar Shetty, COO of UAE Exchange.

Remembering his younger years, Sudhir Shetty said that he feels excited every time he visits his native place in India and like him, even his family loves to enjoy the unique culture of Tulunadu. He appreciated the work of Prakash Payyar in trying to document the culture in detail for the people to remember.

Chief guests Frank Fernandes and Shekhar Shetty also lauded the efforts by Prakash Rao Payyar and assured him of support.

Manohar Tonse analysed the poems that bring out the glory of native culture, the love, the depiction of mythological characters in the book and the uniqueness of some of the poems.

Shantaram Achar recited the poem 'Uretta kannda siri' much to the delight of the gathering.

Murgesh Gajare, Ganesh Rai and Vasukumar Shetty congratulated Prakash Rao Payyar on his efforts and wished him all success.

Presiding over the function, Sarvotham Shetty spoke of his long association with Prakash Rao Payyar and congratulated him on yet another masterpiece, this time in the form of a Tulu collection of poems. He recited a para from Dr Suneetha Shetty’s foreword to the book, which he said points out the creativity in Prakash Rao Payyar and his determination to follow his plans meticulously.

Vinaykumar Naik ably compered the programme and rendered the vote of thanks as well.
