Dubai: Thumbay Hospital organizes first Africa Health Camp

Dubai, Jun 1: To bring about health awareness to the people in the region, Thumbay Hospital, Dubai organized the first Africa Health Camp on Saturday May 30 from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm. The camp was held in association with the Nigerian consulate, Dubai. B T Shonubi, minister- consul, consulate general of Nigeria was the chief guest on the occasion. The camp was coordinated by the medical and health tourism department, Thumbay Hospitals.







"We always get overwhelming response for our free health camps," said Akbar Moideen, director, healthcare and retail division of Thumbay Group UAE. He further added, “As part of the corporate social responsibility of Thumbay Group we would like to help the public with free health camps every year, especially those who do not have easy access to healthcare as it is an expensive commodity in this country. A lot of people across the UAE benefit from these camps.”

A team of specialized doctors, consultants, nurses and volunteers conducted free consultations and checkups in cardiology, internal medicine and general practitioner, general surgery, ENT, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, dermatology and ophthalmology, apart from dental specialties. Over 250 people from Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, Cameroon, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana took advantage of the camp.

In addition to this, free blood pressure checkup, blood sugar checkup, BMI checkup were carried out to create awareness about diabetes and hypertension which has a high incidence in the region.

"The first Africa health camp was a success. We are looking forward to expanding our services to more number of patients from African countries," said Dr Benazir Ameer Ali, director medical tourism department, Thumbay Hospitals. "We get lot of patients from Africa as medical tourists to our hospitals. Through these camps, we are further promote our services and create awareness on various advanced healthcare services that we offer, so that patients can come with their families," added Dr Benazir.

With a dedicated international patient service team offering personalized services Thumbay Hospitals has been treating patients from over 175 nationalities across the globe, spanning from Africa, Middle East, Europe, Southern Europe, including the western hemisphere. The Thumbay Group intends to establish 20 more such centres across the globe, while partnering with other hospitals.
