Bantwal, Jun 2: Due to the recklessness of the driver of a truck loaded with sand, a car got smashed and three persons suffered injuries. The incident occurred at Mittur on Mani-Mysuru highway on Monday June 1.

Three persons, Manoj T Rai (27), Amitha Shetty (37), and Monisha (23), all from Sullia, who were going to Mangaluru on personal work in the ill-fated car, were injured in the accident. The sand truck reportedly was overtaking a vehicle ahead, when it collided head-on with the car coming from opposite direction. The car got badly mangled in the accident, and all the three injured were admitted into a private hospital in Puttur.

Manoj T Rai, who was driving the car, was later taken to Mangaluru as he was found to be in need of advanced medical care.

Vittal police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, visited the spot, gathered details, and registered a case. Locals, angered by the irresponsible behaviour of the truck driver, are said to have assaulted him, besides deflating all the tyres of the truck.
