Bengaluru, June 2 (IANS): The parliamentary standing committee on defence visited the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) here on Tuesday for a firsthand account of its manufacturing facilities and products.
"The lawmakers were treated to a flying display of the various military aircraft, including formation of indigenous helicopters at our airport facility here," HAL said in a statement.
Among the aircraft and choppers showcased were indigenously-built fighter Tejas (LCA), the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT), Jaguar upgraded to Darin III, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Advanced Light Helicopter's (ALH) weaponised version Rudra.
The panel, headed by Maj.Gen. B.C. Khanduri (retd.) of the Bharatiya Janata Party consists of 21 members from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha.
"The visit is educative and valuable for all of us," Khanduri said, according to the statement.
HAL chairman and managing director T. Suvarna Raju and senior officials briefed the members about the company's projects and made presentations on their status.
The city-based defence unit has engine division, aerospace division, ALH design and flight hangars and Tejas manufacturing facility.
