Mangaluru, Jun 3: Officials of Ullal municipality raided a spot near Thokkottu Kapikad, after coming to know that effluents were being released on the road there. They served notices on a car show room and owner of a bar there against continuing with this practice.

The officials raided Maruti Suzuki showroom located near Thokkottu Kapikad, and 'Wine and Dine' bar there. The waste water from the bar is being discharged directly near the road, as a result of which the area always is enveloped in nauseous stench. This area has a temple and about a hundred houses. Although the owner of the bar and manager of the show room were repeatedly requested to take steps to stop this stench, they did not do anything to stop this mess, the locals said.

Chief officer of the municipality, Roopa T Shetty, president, Girija Bai, and health officer of the municipality visited the spot after receiving complaint and issued warning notice to the concerned. Roopa T Shetty warned that the licence issued to the concerns would be cancelled if they do not build alternative pits within a week for routing the smelly discharge.

Girija Bai, who was angry at this pathetic spot existing within her own ward, took the health officer to task, and directed the concerned to take immediate action to address the problem.

It is true that at least now the action has been taken, but for how long this will remain.

Sometime we see only one side of the issue. In this case the fact may be right, but just to let you know, there is big gap in proper planning and its execution. We live in City corporation level, yet there are no proper drainage system, in most of the places no sewage system at all, yet corporation is collection the tax for, sewage, road lighting, eduction cess.

Let us focus on recently introduced waste collection system which is contracted to "Antony Waste". How effectively this system is managed now? You are charged for their services, yet they are not collecting any waste from many houses. Also only latest design equipments are provided, but still the staff is handling the waste manually. Staff is busy in separating plastic, metals, boxes. One can notice this, if not yet, please have a closer look. Also their vehicles are being parked middle of the road, parked in opposite direction and what not?

    Poor planning, poor execution.

Our elected members pat their own back for doing small thing, then forgetting the next important step.

This is very True, I being a local resident here it is very sad that despite the ward belonging to Municipality President, The shabby and unhealthy stinking water is drained to the Roadside..It is very shameful for residents to even enter Kapikad 3rd and 2nd cross as they have to see these Unhygienic waste disposed on the Road..Good That the action is taken atleast Now.
