Mangaluru, Jun 5: The vehicle which sped away after knocking down a pedestrian at Suratkal on the night of May 23 has been found, and the person who was at the wheels at the time of the accident has been nabbed. A hotel employee, who was crossing the highway to reach his room located across the road had been killed in an accident which had occurred around midnight that day.
A team comprising station house officer of the city (north) traffic police station here, Manjunath and other police personnel, who had taken up investigation in the case, succeeded in finding out the killer vehicle. A Toyota car owned by Ravindranath from Tadambail near NITK Suratkal was taken into possession and Ravindranath was arrested by the team. He was later released on bail.
Jagadish, working for Hotel Suraj in Suratkal, was crossing the road at around 11.20 pm after work hours, when an unidentified vehicle had hit him hard before moving ahead. The traffic police then visited all the showrooms and garages in the city and surrounding areas. They found that a vehicle had been left at Toyota showroom for repairs. When the policemen checked the CCTV footage of Hotel Suraj, the visuals were unclear. They then verified CCTV footage of a shop in Hosabettu area and zeroed in on the vehicle on the basis of records therein.
