Sullia, Jun 5: To study about the large-scale break out of fever all over the taluk, and the dengue scare it has spread among the populace, a team of district laboratory technicians visited the taluk on Thursday June 4 and collected blood samples from different places. The team, which also visited the local community health centre, plans to study the type of mosquitoes which are spreading this fever, and to know what kind of fever is affecting people on such a large scale.

The community health centre, which received an average of 350 persons with complaint of fever every day, has now been getting about 250 persons with fever since a couple of days. Blood samples of 15 persons have been sent for testing, while over 40 are being treated as in-patients.

The health department is keeping a close watch on the fever that is spreading in the taluk, and personnel of the department have been visiting the houses of people suffering from fever and sending them to hospitals if symptoms give rise to worry. The department has also been leading a campaign to spread awareness of the need to keep environment clean, destroy mosquito breeding centres, and visit the nearest government hospital in case of fever.

Taluk health officer, Dr Subrahmanya, said that a type of mosquito known as aedes aegypti spreads dengue fever, symptoms of which are high fever, acute headache, pain behind the eyes, muscles and joints. If the disease aggravates, discharge of blood can be noticed from mouth, nose, and gums, he stated.
