Mangaluru: Truck moves back, falls into sea

Mangaluru, Jun 6: A truck which had visited New Mangalore Port at Panambur here on Friday June 5 moved backward due to a lapse on the part of its driver, and fell into the sea. It had just been loaded with coal when the mishap happened.

The truck had been loaded with coal with the help of a crane. The driver of the truck went away to relieve himself, and by the time he came back, the truck had gone missing. Even as astonished workers in the area were looking, the truck moved back, jumped down the jetty, and drowned in a flash.

The fire brigade personnel at the port jumped into action and succeeded in lifting the truck out with the help of crane. However, the coal loaded in the truck was washed away, and a loss of about a lac of rupees has been reported.
