New Delhi, Apr 19: In a novel move to reach out to the Muslims in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has penned a letter in Urdu and sent it to as many as 15,000 members of the community.
Gandhi has made a strong plea to seek the support of the community "in her fight against forces of casteism and communalism", party sources said.
Muslims have been supporters of the Congress till two decades back, but almost turned their back to the party in the wake of demolition of Babri Masjid and also several other developments earlier.
Rahul Gandhi in his whirlwind roadshows recently had also sought to woo the Muslim community by remarking that if anyone from the Nehru-Gandhi family had been active in politics, the demolition of Babri Masjid would not have occurred.
