Mangaluru, Jun 6: Airtel customers in the city can now access 4G network, with Bharti Airtel Ltd on Saturday June 6 launching Airtel 4G LTE technology in Mangaluru.

Sharan Shetty, COO-Karnataka, Bharti Airtel Ltd launched the 4G network in a ceremony held at Hotel Maya International here.

With this, Airtel customers can now enjoy the most advanced internet experience. Airtel customers across Mangaluru can avail a complimentary upgrade to Airtel 4G at 3G prices and be the first to experience blazing Airtel 4G speeds. Airtel 4G will enable super fast internet speeds and allow customers to enjoy capabilities like high definition video streaming with zero buffering, downloading 10 movies in less than 30 minutes, uploading entire photo albums in less than five minutes (that is, uploading two high resolution photos per second), connecting multiple devices without compromising on the experience, etc.

Speaking at the launch, Sharan Shetty said, "According to estimates, nearly half of the Indian population will be online in the next three years. As more and more Indians leverage the power of the internet, we at Airtel are excited to launch Airtel 4G for our customers in Mangaluru and give them the fastest internet experience ever. For us, customers are at the very core of everything we do and delivering a compelling service experience for them is our foremost priority. After the compelling market response for Airtel 4G seen in Bengaluru, we invite our customers in Mangaluru to be the next in the state to enjoy 4G now with complimentary upgrade at 3G prices. We are very excited to embark on a journey towards delivering a truly world class 4G experience in Mangaluru."

“To avail the complimentary upgrade to 4G, existing Airtel customers with 4G compatible mobile devices can visit any Airtel store in Mangaluru and upgrade to 4G SIM. Customers can also visit www.airtel.in/4g and order the latest 4G SIM to be delivered at their doorstep. Airtel offers a wide range of wireless 4G devices like Airtel 4G Dongle, Airtel Wingle, Myfi (Hot Spot), Indoor CPE (Router) and Outdoor CPE (Router) that allow compatible mobile devices to latch onto the 4G network and experience superfast internet speeds".

“To expand the availability of 4G mobile devices for customers and build onto the currently nascent 4G devices ecosystem, Airtel has a range of device partnerships, including new alliances with Flipkart and Motorola as well as Samsung. As part of this, Airtel will soon be offering Rs 500 cash back on Moto E 4G purchased from Flipkart. Samsung India’s retail stores now facilitate easy Airtel 4G SIM swap for customers buying 4G smartphones. In the weeks to come, Samsung will also offer bundled Airtel 4G SIMs along with Samsung 4G handsets available in the Indian market. Airtel 4G double data offers are now available for Samsung’s Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A5 mobile devices. Samsung will also be looking at launching its all new Core Prime 4G mobile smartphone in Airtel 4G markets", he informed.

Earlier in April 2012, Airtel had launched India’s first 4G services in Kolkata. Airtel’s 4G services are now available across India including Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

Ajaykumar, zonal Business manager, Mangaluru was present on the occasion.

    I feel cheated by Airtel.

I have Airtel 4G dongl but I am getting speed of less than 100 kbps.

Whenever I call them they say network issue.

If there are network issues then why are they selling 4G in Mangalore, just to make money???

Whether it is 3G or 4G,Airtel company is cut piece I mean charging too much without our knowledge.Even if you call and keep the phone down without even saying Hello, they deduct Rs.0.02,0.05 secretly arbitrarily. This is very bad. They advertise or talk big big things but their service is anti-people and money making business at the cost of poor subscriber. When we go to lodge the complaint with customer service, staff at the counter are unprofessional and without any knowledge and asking for many things for rectifying even minor faults.I request the company should look into the matter on priority basis,so that customers are not affected.

Also moreover it's "upto" because it's not a fixed line broadband.
These dongle(2G/3G/4G) Waves are emitted from towers, and the speed will depend on the load on the tower, if many user's are connected to it, your speed will naturally be lower.
Just trying to inform nothing else.

Dear Raja Rao, that's what I am trying to say!. We are not being provided the speed that we are promised!. Just can't say if number of users are more speed will be less!. Why they are not upgrading the infrastructure to handle more users!?. They can't say the same in US or European countries!. Hope you know that Indian government has specified certain minimum speed to be called as broadband!?. Definitely 3.1Mbps is not a broadband as claimed because hardly the speed crosses even 10% of rated speed!. If you want to check speed of your connection then use online tools like Netspeed etc and you will know what I am saying!

Download speeds up to 3.1 Mbps means 300-400 kbps only Not 3 mB/s.
Just go and check a 4th computer text book.

Airtel has Poor network in the city. Cant even make proper calls to and from within the Network. All false promises and money making tactics from Airtel. 3G itself does not work properly. Hope AIRTEL will give us Mangalorean's better network facility in and around Mangalore.
Customers beware and don't fall prey until they assure you of proper service.

The way they are saying about speeds looks like we will have the world's fastest internet!. Reliance, Airtel and others 3G dongles with rated speed of 3.1Mbps give on an average 200-300Kbps speeds only!. Now they want us to believe them and pay premium for 4G!. First of all we should remember that we dont have the requisite infrastructure to provide even 1 Mbps speeds over a prolonged period!

    Saar,
    It's 3 mbps not 3 mBps.
There's a difference between byte and bits.
3 mbps -3 mega bits per second. That's why we get 200-300 kBps.
