Pune, Jun 7: Harshitha Shetty from Fergusson College in Pune has ranked first in Maharashtra state in the recently announced Maharashtra Health Sciences Common Entrance Test (MH-CET 2015).

Harshitha has scored 199 out of 200 and has topped the list in the state.

Harshitha is the daughter of Doddamane Harish Shetty, originally from Shirva Panjimar and Varija Shetty from Kabyadi Tattur in Dakshina Kannada district. Harish Shetty is presently a hotelier in Pune and the family stays in Danyawadi in city.

1.89 lac students had appeared for CET assessment held on May 7, out of which 84,929 were boys and 1,04,121 were girls. It is the qualifying examination for Students seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, physiotherapy and BSc (nursing) classes in state.

A brilliant student all her life Harshitha had scored 96.77 % in HSC examinations and stood second in her college. In the CET examination this time she has scored 50 out of 50 in physics, 50 out of 50 in chemistry, and 99 out of 100 in biology.

An elated Harshitha says after receiving the news that she stood first in the state. “I did not expect to score first rank in the state though I was expecting a good performance. I am happy about my achievement. I always wanted to be a doctor and I will definitely take up medicine. I devoted two to three hours a day only for studies during my pre degree course. For the past two months I devoted my whole time for CET preparation. There was absolutely no pressure from my parents. I thank my parents, teachers and Devdar tuition classes for their support.”

Harshita's father Harish Shetty said, "Things were different for our generation, with most of us going into the family hotel business. I am glad that the next generation is breaking away from the stereotype."

Harshitha is also involved in other extra curricular activities including swimming, music and dance.

Kannadigas in Maharashtra and her native place have congratulated Harshitha for her special achievement.
