Bengaluru, Jun 7: Two home alone women – wife of software engineer away in London on official work and her mother-in-law - were taken in by a nasty surprise when they woke up in the morning in their posh apartment in the City on Sunday morning.

The two women, when they got up in the morning, found that burglars had gained entry into their second floor apartment in the multi-storeyed building J M Reddi Royal Apartment in HSR Layout near Bellandur in Bengaluru and had ransacked their house looting gold ornaments and two expensive wrist watches.

The women, Savitha Jain and her mother-in-law, had kept the backdoor of their apartment open in the second floor and went to sleep. When they woke up in the morning, the two women were shocked to find that the wardrobe in the bedroom was open.

A thorough search by the alarmed women revealed that the burglars had decamped with at least 90 grams of gold jewellery and other valuables, including two expensive wrist watches.

Ms Savitha Jain’s husband, a software engineer, was away in London on official work. When Ms Savitha Jain woke up around 5 am, she was shocked to notice that the bedroom was ransacked and the wardrobe was kept open with things strewn around.

The police were immediately summoned after Ms Savitha Jain alerted neighbours and called up the police. The police rushed to the spot and took up immediate investigation.

Though full details of the items stolen were not immediately released, police suspect that somebody known to the family and the habits of the women must have gained entry through the backdoor. There is no evidence of forcible entry.

Police feel that the burglars may have gained entry into the apartment through the passage on the backside of the apartment and walked in through the open door of the room.

Given the fact that the J M Reddy Royal Apartment is a fully secured building with two security guards on duty, police suspect that the burglars must be somebody familiar with the entire set-up.

“We have taken the security guards into custody for investigation,’’ police officers said and indicated that the CCTV footage was also being verified.
