Udupi, Jun 8: A passenger passed away in a bus while travelling from Hiriadka towards Udupi here on Monday June 8.

The deceased, identified as Gopal Nayak (55), a resident of Guddeangady, Hiriadka, died reportedly of cardiac arrest while travelling in a service bus.

It is learnt that Gopal Nayak, after getting on the bus at Hiriadka, had taken a ticket to alight at Manipal. When the bus reached Indrali after halting at Manipal, the conductor went to check with Gopal as to why he had not got down at Manipal. However, Gopal did not respond, and fell over when the conductor tried to shake him awake.

Suspecting something was wrong, the bus was stopped and Nityanand Olekadu's ambulance service was called to the spot. Gopal was rushed to Ajjarkad hospital where he was declared dead.

Sources said that Gopal was a diabetic and was on his way to Manipal for a check-up.

Very unfortunate , sad event. Matter of another 30 minutes he would have been inside the hospital for his intended check up. God only knows one's destiny.. May his soul rest in peace.
