Udupi, Jun 9: Ashfaq Ahmad, the 45-year-old who won the election from Paduthonse grama panchayat, was affected by polio when he was aged six. One of his legs is now completely flaccid. Ahmad has been involved in social service since 25 years.




He contested from Paduthonse grama panchayat in 11-12 wards of sixth block. He won the election with a margin of 70 votes.
Ahmad contested the panchayat elections four times as a BJP-supported candidate but he lost every time. Fortunately, he won for the first time in the election of 2015 as a non-party candidate.

His profession is sand mining and he has won against T S Sadik.

Ahmad said, “I have worked sincerely for the society since 25 years. Now, I get more scope to render service after being elected a member.”
