Mangaluru, Jun 9: A person who had tasted defeat in the recently concluded gram panchayat election, committed suicide near his house in Malai, Papemar at Kayardadi within Bajpe police station limits on Monday June 8. The victim, Chennappa Kulal (55) from Malali had fought the gram panchayat election as a CPM-supported candidate from Badagulipady.

It is said that Chennappa was highly confident of his victory, and as such, he could not take the defeat on his stride. He had fallen silent since the result was announced and was going through bouts of depression, family sources revealed.

He was found hanging from a tree near his house on Monday morning. His son, Sukesh, said in a complaint filed in Bajpe police station that his father would have decided to end his life because of the agony of having been defeated in the election.
