Mangaluru: Minor girl commits suicide, death note alleges harassment by cop

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP/MD)

Mangaluru, Jun 10: A minor girl ended her life by hanging herself at her home in Kumpala Krishnagar here in the early hours of Wednesday June 10. In the death note left behind, the girl has said she decided to commit suicide, having been fed up by incessant harassment at the hands of a policeman.

Jyoti (17), foster daughter of Jayanti, a retired teacher residing in Krishnanagar, was the unfortunate victim of this incident. Jyoti chose the time when her mother, Jayanti, went to attend Yoga training classes being held by Kesari Mitra Vrinda in Kumpala on Wednesday morning, to kill herself.

When Jayanti came back after attending the Yoga class, she found the door of the room to have been bolted from inside. She sought help from her neighbours to break open the door and found to her dismay that Jyoti was hanging from the ceiling fan in the room.

Jyoti, who completed PUC education from Parijnana College in Someshwar, had got admission in BCom degree course at Besant College in the city. Classes of the course are yet to begin.

Jyoti said in the death note left behind by her that she got to know a person named Praveen Salian working in Pandeshwar police station through Facebook.

"I gave him my cell phone number. We started to love each other, and only once we came face to face. I was unhappy with the rules he set. He did not like it if I went anywhere without informing him first. Praveen started to pressurize me thereafter not to speak to friends and relatives. He also used to often pose threats of committing suicide and I was scared that he might do so. I did not cause him any harm and only loved him. His younger brother too threatened me of dire consequences if anything happened to him. Praveen then started demanding one lac rupees in cash apart from gold ornaments," Jyoti stated in the death note states, adding that she decided to commit suicide as she was overcome by a sense of frustration over this harassment.

It is learnt that Jyoti had been adopted by the family when she was a child. Her foster father, who was a school headmaster, had reportedly committed suicide about three years ago. Jyoti was the only child to her foster parents.

Assistant commissioner of police, Kalyani Shetty, Ullal station house officer, Pavitra Teja, and sub-inspector, Bharati, visited the spot and undertook investigation.

Men and women have vastly different expectations in a relationship.

Women set their mind on marriage as soon as they meet a guy. For men, marriage is furthest from their minds.

I do not know how, but if there is a way to prevent tragedies like this, it would be to educate the daughters that men just do not want to marry!

The girls put their whole heart and soul into marriage. And somehow believe that men too want to get married.

So, blaming the man here, merely because the girl is frustrated, is not fair. And quite honestly, blaming the parents is really unfair as the adolescents, particularly having the gadgets to communicate with others without stepping out of the closed room, do not discuss much with their parents anyway.

"Why girls are so desperate for boys ?"
You have placed some eligible boys in a bad situation. You must have known that everything is fair in Love and War. Boys take advantage because of the response from the partner. But ultimately, only the boys are at receiving end.

Devanand, You talk about the area as if India is the biggest country. For your information, it is the 7th largest country. Have you ever compared the police force of those 6 countries to India's? When I said to someone that even a country like Sri Lanka have national identity card whereas India don't have one and people said the same thing.. we have more population..I shot back..Yes!! right.. we have more population than Sri Lanka, do you China's population?? They have national identity card. so, what we have more population to issue national card but we have more man power to manage that too.. they could not answer.. WE in India look for excuses for everything and we want to hear only praise but hate even constructive criticism. Unless we are ready to accept the criticism and solve that shortcoming without looking for excuses(like someone blaming English for our problems even 60 years after they left) we will never develop. We can boast a lot of thing that India is great, 70% of NASA scientists are Indians, 80% doctors in the US are Indians and so on without knowing the reality. China is a good example for development and if we Indians think that we can overtake China in development, I am sure we're in the wrong boat. We have so much internal problems to sort out than China.

B#l! magane, s##!e magane is the qualification of Karnataka police. They use this language when people caught for silly complaints. First SC/ST reservation must be stopped in government department then only we can expect development. All post should be filled with merit and qualification. But I do not think any government will do this.

Dear Readers,What is the qualification of a Indian policeman?
Metric failed or below.Money makes them police man and start earning thereafter to recover the spent money.some time a policeman become CROREPATI like ABshow. What training they get? They cannot fire at any given target.Indiscriminately firing where poor stand by people being gettered.Because they only handled .303 butts or lathis to humiliate themselves.
My humble suggestion is every policeman should have a NCC school certificate. Minimum PUC and they should not reach to the rank of DY S P as on date prevails. Every ASI /SI should be a Graduate in FIRST CLASS with regular college. All PI/ SR.PI should be a regular Post Graduate or Graduate with LAW compulsory.
All SP and above should be POST GRADUATE with LAW degree/MBA in their possession. No political UNCLES for them.I have visited several EU and Asian countries.See the beauty of their public handling. No one is scared of them because unless you are a culprit you need not get scared. ZERO I SAY ZERO corruption . I have seen police man treating visitors like a baby handling. once in bankok I got slipped on the escalator, within a minute the escalator was stopped by a policeman and helped me to raise up and aked me whether I need asy medical assistance. Our police personnel will they do this? They should be sent to naxal areas and borders for shoot to kill or save from opposite side.then only give them chance in peaceful areas.PAY them double then ordinary baboos salaries sitting and doing nothing.(except Under table tax)
Why I write this because I did serve in police force and a pensioner for the last 29 years. My children do not want to come to INDIA. This is the reason we have and got open visa in Europe and Asian countries.Let this be read by POLICE Officials and serving's INDIANS.This is from Singapore where my child working in a MNC EU having world over clearance to move freely..
    With regards-Peter

Whenever there is a news about youngsters committing suicide, love affair and drug abuse I read comments,'parents keep an eye on your kids and their Facebook, mobile etc' and some comments entire blame on parents. I want to ask all parents of teenage children, how many of us are updated with latest IT technology? How many of us know all by ourself to use Android mobile, tablet etc. This is i am talking about educated people, leave alone less educated.

My request to parents is upgrade yourself along with your children so that you too can share everything with them. When they have FB account you too open one, when they use whatsapp you too learn how to use.
