Mangaluru, Jun 10: “Wakf properties are encroached upon in several places in the state causing huge loss to the community. However the Dakshina Kannada district is an exception in that regard and it is satisfying. It is necessary to prevent encroachment upon Wakf land in the future also,” suggested state Wakf board president Dr Mohammed Yusuf.
He was speaking after presiding over the district level Wakf conference held by Dakshina Kannada Wakf advisory committee at Zeenath Baksh Yateemkhana Hall in the city on Monday June 8.
“There are 817 Wakf properties in the district as listed in the state gazette. Several Wakf associations are yet to be registered. Wakf surveys are completed in three taluks in the district and survey in the remaining taluks will be done soon,” said Dr Yusuf.
He added, “Monthly honorarium is paid to 275 Pesh Imams and Muadsins out of 590 mosques. 308 new proposals have been submitted. Though wakf properties are not encroached upon in the district, there has been no development. There are 385 cemeteries in the district and most of them do not have boundary walls. So funds will be released for development of Wakf properties under Nabard projects. There are new laws in the Wakf and cooperation is required for their implementation.”
"Give up prestige and maintain unity. There are complaints of fights in the mosques and Madrasas for
insignificant reasons such as text books. It is not good to walk into police stations and courts. Those who have taken on the responsibility of mosques and madrasas should sincerely conduct their duties. They
should give up their pride and work for the welfare of the community,” urged Dr Yusuf.
Reduce pressure on Khazis
Minister of health U T Khader speaking on the occasion said that Muslims should work towards maintaining the honor of the community and should not fight in matters concerning mosques and madrasas. “Instead
of going to police stations and courts, sort out differences by mutual discussions and reduce the pressure on the Khazis,” he said.
He suggested that the state Wakf board should take the opinion of the district Wakf advisory committees before taking decisions.
No justice
MLC Ivan D'souza, speaking on the occasion, said that 15.19% are minorities in the state population. Out of them 77.83% are muslims and 12.17% are christians. However funds are not released in the state
budget as per their population. It is necessary to raise our voice against this injustice.
Khazis Alhaj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar inaugurated the conference. Assayed Fazul Koyamma Thanjal Korath conducted the dua. Dakshina Kannada district Wakf advisory committee president S M Rashid Haji welcomed and gave the keynote address.
MLA Moidin Bava, state Wakf board members Haji Y Mohammed Kunhi, Shafi Sadi Nandavara, Khalid Ahmed, Yenepoya V V chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi, Ballary Zilla panchayat CEO Mohammed Salauddin, minority directorate director Akram Pasha, Muda president Haji Ibrahim Kodijal, Karnataka Byari literary academy president B A Mohammed Hanif, Udupi district Wakf advisory committee president Yahya Nakhwa, central Juma Masjid's Khatib Abdul Azeez Kallega, Usman Haji Mitthuru, district minority welfare department official Usman participated in the programme.
Committee vice president Haji Mohammed Sharif, members Haji B S Bashir Jeppu, Hanif Bajpe, Mohammed Hanif Golthamajalu, B J Hanif Ullala, B M Bashir Ahmed and Abdul Khader Vitla were present on the dais.
