Mangaluru: Railway suggestions/complaint boxes set up at MLC, MP offices

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (CLP)

Mangaluru, Jun 10: Suggestions/complaint boxes pertaining to the railways department were inaugurated at the offices of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLC Ivan D'Souza in separate ceremonies.

At the office of MLC Ivan D'Souza, the suggestions/complaint box was officially inaugurated by mayor Jacintha Alfred.

"The complaints/suggestions submitted by people through the complaint box will be addressed to railway department officers, and every three months through the 'Konkan Railway and Southern Railway Adalat' a solution will be provided," said MLC Ivan.

Addressing a press meet later at his office, Ivan D'Souza said, "As soon as I was appointed southern railway consultative committee adviser, I began recieving a number of complaints/suggestions from people. I have already participated in the Adalat and all the issues and suggestions were discussed and officials concerned were directed to look into the matters.

"Public participation in the railway activities is very limited and that is the reason the railway budget is very less and no new trains have been introduced for Karnataka. In order to encourage public participation in the day-to-day activities of the railways, a suggestions/complaint box has been installed at my office. The box will be opened every 15 days and complaints/suggestions will be sent to respective departments of the railways.

"MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has also promised to work hand-in-hand with me in this good cause and open a suggestions/complaint box at his office too," he added.

"In the year 2011-12, almost 34.72 lac passengers travelled from Mumbai to Mangaluru, and many more were on waiting lists. In order to reduce the problems faced by people, we will demand two super fast trains under Konkan Railways from Mangaluru Central in the next budget. The Konkan Railways is charging 40% more than other normal trains since the year 1997 and till now there is no information about how much money was collected from passengers for laying new tracks," he added.

"The major problem faced by the passengers in the Mangaluru railway station is language. Ticket officials have been speaking the language of another state. The change in the schedule of trains is not properly communicated to the passengers. I will request the deputy commissioner to appoint staff at railway stations and open an information centre with personnel who speak the native languages. If there is a shortage of fund, I am ready to pay from the MLC fund. My main concern is that passengers should not face any problems while travelling," he said.

Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde and others were present at the occasion.

Meanwhile, MP Nalin Kumar too inaugurated a suggestions/complaint box pertaining to the railways at his office housed in the DC's office premises. In a press note, he said that this has been done in fulfillment of the promise he had made in a meeting with railway officials on May 18 last month.

Sir I had an idea to increase our railway revenues. Many trains will travel long and short distance to reach its destinations. For example, train from Chennai to Bangalore or Hyderabad to Vijayawada will be 6 hrs journey in which many passengers will get bored simply sitting in chair car so if we start a theater in one of the compartment in the train and keep the fair as Rs 150 or 200 extra on the fair of the original ticket, so many passengers will prefer to enjoy seeing movie and they wont get bored as if they are travelling such a long distance and at the same time Indian Railways revenues will be increase.I had a full plan of it so if Indian Railways are happy to implement it then we INDIAN RAILWAYS will be the number one in the world to introduce a movie theater in the trains. Hope you all like my idea.

Can anyone provide the email address of both Ivan and Nalin Kumar so that the the complaints can be directly addressed to them?. This will also eliminate paperwork, time, travel etc to lodge the complaint besides having a record of the same.

Complaint boxes like bike Ambulance will be dumped into dustbin in a matter of few days. Do we have enough labour open and read and understand the complaints. People will work and showoff their dedication while some MLA's, MP's visit them. Otherwise all those letter complaints received will be burnt in broad day light by the Authorized person himself. Just wait and see. While a postman can throw away 1000 letters into the dustbin, what's the big deal to burn the complaint letters? Once again money wasted by Mr. Nalin and Ivan. Mangalore is for Kudla people. Why so many malbari's sitting in Mangalore railway counter. Can Mr. Nalin explain this inefficiency.

I agree to the suggestion of appointing the local native language person on counter to communicate with the passenger. Let us have double track from mangalore to udipi ie in first phase and 2nd phase from udipe to karwar and 3rd phase from karwar to madgaon. Now it is high time mangalore requires double track and introducing new train on this route is useless.Making passenger nightmare. one more suggestions if possible metro rail is required in mangalore for interior places so that future generation will travel leisure instead of waiting for private buses. The planning should on ring road this will work very fast since now not much hurdle to lay the pillar for metro rail.

I wonder if Ivan & Nalin had a dream over the last week that the other would set up a complaint box, if not they must have met at the local pub over the week end and decided to have complaint boxes on the same day.
Anyway this is called 'Char anne ki murgi, barah anne ka masala' - 500 rs box and 2000 rs expense for the mayor, guests, flowers, ribbons excluding VAT and media personnel!!! Most of us must be knowing that it is a regulation that all public transports (autos, buses and even trucks) need to have a First Aid Box and most of us have seen nicely painted / or Corroded boxes. How ever if you open them you may find nothing (no first aid) or for a surprise you may find a mouse or even a bandicoot. Are our politicians clowns???

These good for nothing MP and MLC are wasting public funds without any concern for the citizens.

Does anyone have the time to visit their offices, just to write a complaint and put into that dumb box, which in my opinion will never be opened or attended to as promised by these guys.

Will they ever reply to the citizens on what action they will take concerning the issues raised by the public in the first place..??!!

These guys could have come with an online solution wherein public can air their grievances not only about the railways, but also about the pathetic condition of the services offered at coastal region, and could demand an explanation from these two guys.

People should have online access to all the sleepy leaders of Karnataka, so that they can be taken for a task whenever they fail to deliver their obligations to the state and to the entire nation.

Really funny....Who will go to their office to "Suggestion" papers ??? The Suggestion Box should be installed in the Railway station itself or in MCC/DC Office. By the way, does Nalin Anna know to read the "suggestions" written in English ???

Why does the Railway not do its work honestly instead of looking for commuters who will complain. This shows that only if people complain will they work on them. Those complain boxes are useless. Sometimes i feel all the government employee should go through basic ethics and honesty test before being recruited.
