Bengaluru, Jun 11: In all likelihood, the cabinet meeting being held today will take a decision on implementation of 'Karnataka State Child Safety Policy for Educational Institutions - 2015'. The policy, it is gathered. If implemented, makes it mandatory for those running schools to take firm measures for safety and security of children in schools. This policy also lays additional onus on the managements of private educational institutions.

The state government had formulated a committee comprising highly placed officials to draft rules to ensure safety and security of children attending educational institutions. Formation of a committee on this issue was found necessary in the light of sexual assault on girl students at Vibgyor and Orchid schools in the city. On the basis of recommendations made by this committee, new policy has been drafted.

The agenda of today's cabinet meeting includes the above issue. Sources said that a final decision would be taken after holding detailed discussions.

Once the new policy comes into force, schools will have to compulsorily take safety and security measures for the children including installation of CCTVS, appointment of women staff and teachers and such other measures for averting instances of sexual harassment in schools.
