Udupi, Jun 12: Three women passengers of an auto rickshaw and an auto driver were injured in a serial accident which occurred near Katapadi forest gate on national highway 66 on Thursday June 11 afternoon. The accident occurred when a fish container truck hit a Tata 407 tempo. The auto rickshaw which got sandwiched between these two vehicles was badly mangled, while people travelling by it were injured.

The injured women are Alimabi (60), Zoharabi (24) and Jamsheer (22), from Doddanagudde in the town. The auto rickshaw driver, Ashraf, also was admitted into hospital with the three women passengers.

The container truck was moving towards Mangaluru from the direction of the town, when it hit the tempo and auto rickshaw, which were entering the road near the diversion to the two-way road near Udyavar new bridge head on. The women were tossed on to the road in this accident. Those in the tempo however had a miraculous escape.

Many locals and vehicle drivers said that unscientific diversions on the highway are posing risks to vehicles. Heavy vehicels which move on Udyavar bridge at high speed prove hazardous to vehicles entering the road at the diversion given at the other end, they pointed out. They said that the diversion near Udyavar bridge is the most risky, and demanded for such diversions to be addressed in a scientific manner.
