Puttur: Smart man caught because of new expensive smartphone

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (RJP)

Puttur, Jun 13: He had run away with Rs 5.5 lac cash belonging to his owner on Jun 6. After that he acted smart so that he would never be caught. He moved from place to place thinking nobody would know about him. Even new expensive smart phone could not save him.

Puttur town police who were after Sachin managed to arrest him in Bengaluru.

History of the case

Sachin who was sent to bring money from a shop had disappeared with Rs 5. 5 lac cash belonging to his owner, as per the police complaint lodged at Puttur Police station on June 7.

In a complaint lodged at Puttur town police station, areca nut merchant from Kaniyoor Abdul Karim had said that Sachin who was working in his areca nut shop had not returned with the cash for which he was sent. The incident happened on June 6 morning. Abdul Karim had sent Sachin from Kaniyoor to Amina Supari Garbal shop in Puttur Padil to bring cash. Sachin did not return but phoned at 10.30 am on the same to say that he had a breakdown of his bike.

When Sachin did not return till afternoon, Abdul phoned Sachin’s mobile phone which was found switched off. Later Abdul phoned Amina Supari Garbal and learned that Sachin had collected Rs 5. 5 lac cash from them as arranged.

Sachin’s father did not have any solution for the problem when he was informed about his son’s disappearance.

Puttur town police registered theft and missing complaints.

How Sachin was arrested?

Abdul Karim received a letter from Sachin which claimed that a gang who came in a Bolero vehicle followed him and looted the cash of Rs 5. 5 lac. In the same letter Sachin said that he would work hard somewhere and pay that money. Sachin's language in the letter was polite. He even mentioned about his parents and seeked their blessings.

Abdul Karim handed over the letter to police inspector Mahesh Prasad. The police promised that they would investigate the matter. The letter was posted from Puttur itself on the day of Sachin’s missing.

Smart Sachin went to Mangaluru first where he bought a smart phone worth Rs 40,000. From there he went to Goa and later to Panvel by train. From there he took a bus to Mumbai. In Mumbai he bought a chain worth Rs 60,000. Then he deposited Rs 50,000 into his bank account.

The police team headed by sub inspector Abdul Khadar who came to know that Sachin was in Mumbai went there. Sachin’s mobile location showed that he was near Grant Road mobile tower. But the police did not find him there. But again by seeing the mobile location, police learned that Sachin was proceeding to Bengaluru. Sachin was surprised to see the guests who knocked on his door. Police ultimately arrested him in a lodge at Majestic in Bengaluru on Jun 11.

Sachin knew that police could follow him based on the movements of the mobile phone. So he did not use his old mobile and SIM at all. Instead he stated using the new smart phone with new SIM. He did not know that police knew his new phone number.

Sachin made only one mistake. He did not stop phoning his girlfriend. Police tracked the phone calls his girlfriend received and came to know about Sachin’s new number. sachin was not addicted to mobile phone but was addicted to making calls to his girlfrienf. He phoned her repeatedly.

Sachin had Rs 3. 30 lac in his possession when the police arrested him. He said he lost Rs 50,000 in Mumbai.

The police team included Abdul Khadar , Prashanth Rai, Rajesh and Sharif Nadaf.
