Dubai, Jun 13: The Yakshagana performance comprising mythological episodes, 'Manikanta Mahime' and 'Rathi Kalyana' presented at Sheikh Rashid auditorium of Indian High School at Karama on Friday June 12 was magical to say the least. Specifically, local artistes who came together under the umbrella of 'Yakshamitraru', excelled with their superb dancing capability and acting prowess. It was a historic event as far as this city is concerned, the audience opined.
The programme got an auspicious beginning in the form of 'Ranga Puje' and lighting of the lamp under the guidance of Vasudeva Bhat. Acme Building Materials managing director, Harish Sherigar, Praveen Shetty of Fortune Group of Hotels, Harish Bangera, Premnath Shetty, and several other dignitaries graced the inaugural.
Patla Sathish Shetty, well-known Bhagawath of Kateel Mela, who has been known for his mellifluous rendering of Yakshagana stanzas in an authentic way, who came as guest artiste, succeeded in winning over the hearts of everyone. Shetty, who has visited the Gulf several times in the future, has scores of fans in the region. Padyana Chjaitanya Krishna, well-known Chende artiste, who came here for the first time, introduced to the people the level of his skill at playing Chende.
Both Padyana and another guest artiste, Akshay Kumar Marnad, who excelled in the roles of Mohini and Draupadi, were felicitated in the presence of dignitaries and audiences on behalf of Yakshamitraru.
The felicitation was accorded by Harish Sherigar of Acme, Praveen Shetty of Furtune Group, Sathish Venkataramana of Chilli Villi, Satish Poojary of Duibai Billavas, Harish Banegera, Premnath Shetty, Sathish Mayya, Raghuram Shetty, Vasu Shetty, Gunasheela Shetty, Chidanand Poojary and others.
The 'Yakshamitraru' team, having members who are otherwise very busy with their work, and who have been setting aside some time for serving art, and have presented before the people a number of Yakshagana performances in the past, proved once again that they have matured in presenting programmes of high quality. Artistes of this group were ably supported by guest artistes who came from coastal Karnataka.
Balakrishna D Shettigar Kinnigoli, Kishore Gatti, Bhavanishankar Sharma, Chidanand Poojary, Harish M S Yeyyady, Sudhakar Thumbe, Deepak Rao Pejavar, Krishnaprasad Suratkal, Prabhakar Suvarna, Krishnaraj Bhat Abu Dhabi, Sharanya Venkatesh Shastri, Swathi Sharat Achar, Samantha Hegde, Pratheek Jayanand Pakkala, Manasvini Bhavanishankar Sharma, Aditi Dinesh Shetty, Prapti Jayanand Pakkala, Smriti Laxmikant Bhat, Aniket Bhavanishankar Sharma, Vasu Bayar, Seetaram Rai, Vasant Sherigar, Sahana Bhat, Girish Narayan Katipalla, Aditya Dinesh Shetty, Ravi Bhat Veenu, Tanvi Bhat, Jayant Shetty, Krishnakumar Aila, Swati Sharat Achar, Sapna Kiran, Vikram Shetty Kadandale, Prasad Adyapady and several young artistes from Dubai showed to the world that they are inclined to enjoy traditional art forms of coastal Karnataka and will carry it through the next generation.
